Here's one for you
.
.
.
Have you ever seen a hornet before?
here in Singapore, we seldom witness one
lucky us
cause no human would wanna encounter these anywhere
They aim and spray acid at your eyes. A mixture of acid and pheromone,
which will lure all nearby wasps to join in the stinging fray.
Not only will the acid consume your flesh, their stings are fatal.
maybe you don't know, but they LOVE honeybees
if a hornet encounters a hive, it will spray its acid which will call upon its own hive mates
next, you'll see the hornets arrive in a group of about thirties
and they can easily destroy thousands of bees in that hive
tearing every living bee apart, leaving behind only limbs and body segments,
and then carry off the bee larvae to feed to their own larvae.
(pictures were taken from uglyoverload.blogspot.com)
you might think why didn't the little honeybees attacks?
the reason is because their stings aren't strong enough as compared to the hornets
But!
clever little creatures
they came up with a way to tackle the hornet
when a hornet is spotted, about hundred worker bees stay by the hive opening and keep it open
luring the hornet inside. Once the hornet enters, about five hundred bees who were waiting inside the hive, swarm the hornet and trap the hornet inside the bee ball
The little bees then begin to buzz and flap their wings, raising the temperature inside the ball to 47 degrees celsius.
The bees can tolerate the temperature just fine,
but the hornet has already reached its fatal limit at 45 degrees.
thus. the little bees literally cook the invader to death.
AMAZING TEAMWORK (:
